what do we do

Since its initiation in 1962, Himpunan Kimia Indonesia (HKI) or the Indonesian Chemical Society has grown and become the society for more than 1360 chemists including students, scientists and professional in Indonesia. The society is a non-provit organization which vision to nurture the general advancement of chemical sciences in Indonesia for the welfare of Indonesian citizen. Based on that vision, the Indonesian Chemical Society works to foster and encourage scientists and professionals in the field of chemistry to advance their chemical competency for the welfare of Indonesia; to advance science and practice of chemistry and its applications; to establish and foster scientific networks between members as well as science communication and dissemination of chemical knowledge to non-scientific community; to serve the public interest such as government by acting in an advisory, consultative or representative capacity; to foster networking with other scientific society and professional body nationally and internationally; to advance the growth of scientific works and education; and to coordinate conferences and scientific meetings.

the history of us

1962 - Indonesian Chemical Society (Himpunan Kimia Indonesia, HKI) was established on 27 February 1962 in Bandung, Indonesia.

1979 -  Indonesian Chemical Society was join with other chemical societies from several countries in Asia to establish the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies

1982-1995 -  HKI was held National Conference on Chemistry annually. After 1995, national conference was discontinued, replaced by workshops, focus group discussion, etc.

2002 - With the initiative of HKI Brach West Java, the annual conference was revived as Seminar Nasional HKI, SNHKI (National Conference of the Indonesian Chemical Society). SNHKI-2002 was held in Bandung, at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), and SNHKI-2003 was held in Malang, at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM). In 2004 and 2005, there were no SNHKI. Starting from 2006, SNHKI was held regularly every year, at Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB, Bogor) in 2006, at Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2007, at Universitas Udayana (Unud) in 2008, at Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI, Jakarta) in 2009, at Universitas Hasanuddin in 2010, at Universitas Riau (Unri) in 2011.

2007 - HKI was rejoined the Federation of the Asian Chemical Societies.

2008 - The first collaboration of HKI with Sandia National Laboratories, by co-organizing One-Day Workshop on Chemical Safety and Security in Denpasar, Bali. This collaboration was continued in the following years.

2010 - HKI became the Associate National Adhering Organization of IUPAC. The collaboration of HKI with CRDF Global was also started in this year, with the following activity: Indonesia Chemistry Research Grant Competition.

2012 - Starting in 2012, SNHKI was changed to International Conference of the Indonesian Chemical Society (ICICS). The venue of ICICS were in the following cities: Malang, East Java (2012), Yogyakarta (2013), Ambon, Maluku (2014), Medan, North Sumatera (2015), Samarinda, East Kalimantan (2016), Palembang, South Sumatera (2017).

2013 - HKI was joined Asian Chemical Editorial Societies as one of supporting organization. ACES published 3 journals: Chemistry: An Asian Journal, Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry, and ChemNanoMat.

2015 -  HKI Congress approved a decree to change the leadership style of HKI. HKI will be lead by collegial leaders: President, President-Elect, and Immediate Past President. In 2016, HKI Congress will elect a figure to become the President-Elect of HKI in 2017. Starting from 2018, HKI to be lead by three collegial leaders.

2016 -  On 20 May 2016, HKI with other 8 (eight) scientific societies established a federation of scientific societies of Indonesia named Indonesian Science and Math Societies (ISMS).

2016 - August 16, 2016 HKI was officially established as the legal not-for-profit entity of the professional society for chemists, including students, scientists and professional in Indonesia. The official name was registered as  "Perkumpulan Indonesian Chemical Society" by the Notary Public Mrs. Ety Farida Yusup, SH., M.Kn. The establishment of the Indonesian Chemical Society (Himpunan Kimia Indonesia, HKI) was endorsed by the Ministry of Law  and Human Right of the Republic of Indonesia with the Decree Number AHU-0003580.AH.01.07.TAHUN2017

2017 -  The Indonesian Chemical Society with other scientific societies of Indonesia established a team to prepare Independent Accreditation Body for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (Lamsama, Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal)

2018 - The Indonesian Chemical Society excercises for the first time the collegial leadership with Dr. Tatas H.P. Brotosudarmo (President), Prof. Dr. Harno Dwi Pranowo (President-Elect), and Dr. Muhamad A. Martoprawiro (Immediate Past President). The collegial leadership governance was endorsed by the Ministry of Law  and Human Right of the Republic of Indonesia with the Decree Number AHU-0000215.AH.01.08.TAHUN2018
